🎥 Runway Gen-2: Text-to-Video

This has been the most mindblowing news since GPT-4 was released. Text-to-video is here, and you will be able to use it very soon. A company called Runway AI are about to release their Gen-2 model. Which takes in text prompts and turns it into a video

The technology isn’t perfect yet. Though with the rate that AI has been progressing at recently, it won’t be a surprise if this technology generates decent videos that could barely be distinguished from real ones by the end of 2023. Imagine text-to-video at the level of Midjourney V5…

It has a long way to go, but the applications in the future are both hopeful and terrifying. Imagine a world were movies, short films, or even YouTube videos are entirely generated with AI. From the actors, to the narration, to the music, and to the visuals. Where we are stuck saying, “back in our day, videos had real people in it with real voices. And yes, filming was a real thing”. This is definitely the direction we are heading in, and I will admit it is a little scary.

🤖 Alibaba’s ChatGPT

Everyone knows that ChatGPT has been at the center of attention for everything AI. This means that many of the big companies want a piece of the cake. Microsoft, Google, Meta, and many others have tried to replicate what has been done with ChatGPT. Though so far nobody has got close.

Even though OpenAI is a hard competitor to beat, the Chinese company Alibaba wants part of the action. Will they succeed? Probably not. If I’m wrong about them will I be embarrased? Maybe slightly. But what I do know is that many and many hours are being put into this technology by many and many researchers. There’s a lot to be improved upon, but at this point I guess it is still anyone’s game.
